Ok, so the violence in Joker is mild when compared to this movie. Why was the violence in Joker talked about so much? Everyone kept saying that it was a dangerous movie. I don’t get it… Why? Ok, so, now that we got the violence part out of the way, let’s talk about this movie in general. This is in my opinion an underrated and overlooked action thriller. Action packed, violent, a great plot twist which I will not spoil. You’ll just have to see it. Great acting too from Chadwick Boseman, Sienna Miller, Stefan James and J.K. Simmons.
The action is not like so many modern day action movies. No shaky cams, unnecessary quick cuts and all that shit. It’s almost as good as the action in the old James Bond movies. As for the only real problem with the movie, I’d say it’s too short. This would have been easily an over 2 hour movie. This movie is just 99 minutes including end credits. In the movie they only briefly mention the personal connection between Chadwick Boseman’s protagonist and Stefan James’ character.
I wished that the personal connection aspect of the movie was explored a lot more, like, maybe have a flashback montage when they were best friends as kids or something like that. They also only mention that Stefan James’ character was discharged from the military. That would have also been a fun flashback montage of the stuff he did in the military and actually show what was the reason for him being discharged.Yes, technically he is a villain but I would disagree with that. You’ll see what I mean when you see the plot twist. Other than that, this movie is a total blast from beginning to end.
