Extraction (2020) - Movie Review - Quick Movie Reviews by Haris

Tyler Rake (Chris Hemsworth) is a fearless black market mercenary and he goes on the most deadly extraction of his career when he’s hired to rescue the kidnapped son of an imprisoned international criminal. In an underworld of weapons dealers and traffickers, a young boy named Ovi Mahajan (Rudhraksh Jaiswal) becomes the victim of a war between notorious drug lords. He is kidnapped in one of the world’s most impenetrable cities and his rescue relies on the unparalleled skill of Tyler Rake. But Rake is a broken man with nothing to lose, a death wish that makes an already deadly mission near impossible.

As soon as I saw the list of people who were involved in this violent Netflix action thriller movie, I was hyped. Chris Hemsworth, Joe & Anthony Russo. And directed by Sam Hargrave, the stunt coordinator for several superhero and action movies. And the result is mind-blowing action and fight scenes.

This is a pretty basic action plot, but, you can see they’re trying to make the best movie as they can out of it. The problem I have the most with this movie are the characters. It’s hard to really care about anyone in this movie. You get a tragic backstory to Tyler Rake, but the kid, Ovi Mahajan, he doesn’t really have any backstory. Sure, he’s the son of an imprisoned crime lord and he’s in danger, but, that’s pretty much it. He’s not as compelling as Tyler Rake. Even all the other characters are like that. I didn’t find myself caring about them that much. The acting is good, though, I have to congratulate them on that. Now let’s talk about the action. This is some of the best hand-to-hand combat I have ever seen and you also get an 11-minute one-shot white-knuckle action scene. Really great stuff.

If you’re just looking for great action, this movie will do the trick for you. But, because I didn’t care about any of the characters and the basic plot, I’m giving this movie 7/10*. This is a damn good action movie, though and I recommend that you see it.
