Pierce Brosnan’s first movie as James Bond. Honestly, his only good movie. Sure, this time it’s personal again. The type of plot that I like. But in my opinion Licence to kill did everything better when compared to this movie. The action is beginning to show little hints of modern-day-action-scene-filming-suffering. There is a couple of closeups, quick cuts and shaky cam and it’s a little worrying to see. But as I said, this movie only shows hints of this.
This is still a very good action movie with a good plot and a fair amount of humor. Where this movie majorly suffers for me are the extremely annoying secondary villains Xenia Onatopp (Famke Janssen) and Boris Grishenko (Alan Cumming)! Why are they even in this movie? These are the most annoying characters I have ever seen in a James Bond movie and I had to put up with Sheriff J.W. Pepper for two movies in a row for crying out loud…
The James Bond plots are kind of becoming repetitive at this point. There’s always something about jewellery, nuclear missiles, drugs, the British vs the Russians… Sure, this movie is about the British vs the Russians yet again, but this time the threat is cyber terrorism/hacking.
This is actually a really good movie. I didn’t enjoy it as much as Licence to kill, but, I’m still giving it the same grade: 8/10*
