Henry Hill might be a small time gangster, who may have taken part in a robbery with Jimmy Conway and Tommy De Vito, two other gangsters who might have set their sights a bit higher. His two partners could kill off everyone else involved in the robbery, and slowly start to think about climbing up through the hierarchy of the Mob. Henry, however, might be badly affected by his partners’ success, but will he consider stooping low enough to bring about the downfall of Jimmy and Tommy?
This movie is based on a true story, it is gorgeously shot and it’s also full of Martin Scorsese’s epic bursts of violence and swearing mixed with a good amount of very effective dry humor, great characters, great performances from everyone involved, especially Ray Liotta. Surprisingly, he didn’t win an oscar for this movie, he didn’t even get nominated. Joe Pesci won the oscar for best actor in a supporting role. Even Robert De Niro wasn’t nominated. He’s excellent in this. Lorraine Bracco got nominated for best actress in a supporting role. She deserved it, I can’t argue against that, but Liotta and De Niro should have been up for grabs for at least something. Speaking of just nominations, this movie was only nominated for best picture, Scorsese was only nominated for best director, the editing is also great in this movie but it only got nominated. This movie should have won a lot more than it did.
This is a great movie that I highly recommend you check out. Add it to your bucket list. Don’t miss out on it! I think that my 10/10* rating for this movie should come as no surprise
