Roger Moore’s second James Bond movie… This time he goes off to Hong Kong, Macau, Thailand, and then the South China Sea in search of a solar energy weapon. The villain in this movie is Hector Scaramanga played by Christopher Lee, who is an expert assassin who kills people for a lot of money with a golden bullet in his golden gun and is also known for having a third nipple. Yeah, that third nipple is referenced quite a lot. It’s a big plot point in this movie
Scaramanga’s car also turns into a plane midway through this movie and he uses it to get away after a very long car chase with James Bond. Yeah, get used to these ”WHAT THE FUCK” moments in these movies. These 70’s movies are filled with them, especially Moonraker (1979)! I can’t wait to talk about that movie. I would have said this was a very good chase scene, but the reappearance of Sheriff J. W. Pepper in this movie ruined it. I know he’s there for comic relief but this is just the most annoying character I have ever seen in a movie ever
Christopher Lee has been in some very good and some very bad movies. He gives his best performance when he plays villains. Prime example being Saruman from the Lord of the rings trilogy and the Hobbit movies. In this movie he’s ok, I guess. There’s nothing wrong with his performance here, I’d go as far as to say that he gives the best performance in the movie, but, his character is so poorly written. He also has a dwarf butler + partner in crime in this movie, Hervé Villechaize’s character Nick Nack. He’s basically Mini-Me from the Austin Powers trilogy.
6/10*
